If Tampa’s skate scene is known for anything, it’s the Skatepark of Tampa, the indoor park Brian Schaefer opened at the end of 1992. Since then, the facility has grown into a hub of skateboarding in the south, drawing skaters from surrounding cities and states and creating a scene that has nurtured pros ranging from former New Deal rider John Montesi to original Baker team member Jeff Lenoce. IIt has hosted annual am and pro contests since the mid-’90s. Tampa is also home to the Boardr, a shop launched by former Skatepark of Tampa employees Rob Meronek and Ryan Clements.
