Atlanta has a deep skate history. Andy Howell launched Underworld Element, now known as Element, in the city. And Thomas Taylor, a former Schmitt Stix am and the founder of the defunct Torque Skateboards, opened Stratosphere, Atlanta’s oldest skateshop, in 1986. Only in recent years, though, has the the southern metropolis gained wider recognition in the skate world. Taylor’s son Grant, Thrasher magazine’s 2011 Skater of the Year, turned pro for Alien Workshop before joining the Anti-Hero team in 2014. Stevie Williams, meanwhile, has turned the city into a second home, using it as a base of operations for DGK, the brand he co-founded. As a result, Atlanta has been featured heavily in videos like DGK’s Parental Advisory (2012).
